The Ol' Fishing Hole

Friday, May 29: Hancock, MD-4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
This morning Ryan went to the store to buy fishing line, hooks, and bait, and when we had found some big sticks, we made our own fishing poles.
We headed down to the little creek by the lot to try our hand at catching some dinner. We figured we could stand among the fish like Casey did yesterday and simply drop our lines by them. Unfortunately, due to the rain, the water was much deeper than we anticipated.
Our plans were put on hiatus when the elephants came to play in the water where we were fishing. Undeterred, we moved further upstream (downstream was out of the question since the elephants "unloaded" as soon as they hit the water) to a little dam and waterfall. Besides spotting a leech, we had our only near catch of the day. A small fish went for the corn and cheese concoction that we had baited our lure with, but he dove under some branches and when I pulled up on my line he broke the hook off. D'oh!

Finally we moved back towards the elephants and were having a great time until Ryan spotted a snake swimming by. That ended our fishing trip pretty darn quick (and gave me the willies thinking about how we were stumbling over rocks and splashing around in the waist deep water earlier)!
I decided to try my luck at a safer and easier location...

It was a nice day today, even though a couple of times we were threatened by rain clouds.
We had a good sized first crowd; during the show members of the Adam Forepaugh/Barry Lubin Circus Fan Tent threw a cake and ice cream social for the show in the cookhouse. The members in attendance were David Orr, Don Curtis, Wally Stehley, Larry McKee, Kevin Burns, and Stacy Craig. David also presented me with a bag full of goodies including some new t shirts (see shirt of the day).

The sink gag of the first show was frustrating. I'm not sure what set things off, but tempers flared mid gag. One thing I have learned about doing slapstick with a partner is you can't let your emotions carry you away. When we're hitting each other with props or getting physical, you really have to pay attention in those instances that you don't put too much feeling or aggression behind your actions, or someone is bound to get hurt.

We had a packed house for the second show; it was so great to have good reactions again. This past week hasn't been our best for business. At least it has been the exception rather than the rule.

Members of the Forepaugh/Lubin tent showed up at America's Own tonight for the BBQ. It was a great cookout and an excellent way to wind down at the end of the day.

Is the show playing WI or MN this summer? Too bad you two will not be at the CMW parade/festival.

Sure would be nice if the KM web site had some photos of you two and listed you in the online program.
